showreel 2004-2007

Dit is een compitatie van alle filmpjes die ik van mijn eerste tot mijn derde studiejaar gemaakt heb. Op dit moment ben ik hard bezig om een nieuwe showreel te maken, die ook mijn meest recente werk bevat.

This is a compilation of my movies, made from my first till my third year of animation studies. I'm working on a new showreel at the moment, which will include my most recent work as well.

In opdracht van toneelgroep 2 van kunstcentrum de Nieuwe Veste heb ik bij hun voorstelling case een aantal klokken ontworpen die als achtergrondprojecties gedurende de hele voorstelling te zien waren. Het stuk situeerde een dag uit het bizarre leven van een advocatenkantoor. Elke klok slaat op iets wat te zien was of gezegd werd tijdens die scene. Het script is te uitgebreid om alles uit te leggen, ik laat slechts de klokken hier zien.

this is me in the bathroom mirror. I wanted to photograph that for a long time. I really liked the look op the waterdrops that seemed to be on my face. The whole series can be find at eigennoodzaakeerst.blogspot.com. This is the blog about my minor in visual arts.

this is a serie of photographs showing me and my mirror-me. It is a simple and pretty cliche idea but I was suprised by the way the pictures managed to scare me.

Instead of model drawing, we got the opportunity to do some model sculpting. This man is a little bit a caricature of the model who didn't have a beard for instance.

the old one

I wanted to make an old person for a long time. Most of the time I think the faces of old people are often more interesting than the faces of the young ones. The wrinkles, the experience, the expression. SO, this is my first old one. I want to make more, with real wrinkles.

This is a complete puppet. I wasn't able to make real nice pictures of the complete body but they will come. One day.

Some spare ironwire, black wax and the urge to make a skinny figure with a creepy face resulted in this creature.

dance

These are pen and ink drawings, photographed behind a lamp. I considered making a movie about two dancing shamans, changing each other in strange creatures. This was an idea for a group project and it didn't come through. However, I like these drawings. I don't know whether I ever going to make this movie, but maybe I'll use this kind of drawing behind light another time.

life and death

These are some pictures of the puppets I made in the second year in a group project about live, death and a very ill little boy. Everything above this picture is made in the third year and is not related to an assignment.

Circus creatures

This first year assignment was just one word: circus. We were absolutely free to do anything with that. I concentrated on the animals. I don't like to see animals do tricks in a big tent, so I thought about mixing animals and people up. I designed and made four creatures with iron wire, clay en cut open stuffed animals. And it worked, everybody felt sorry for the stuffed animals, and maybe for the real ones too.
This is just a small selection of pictures.

Light and reflection

Just a simple bathroom with an emergency curtain but it fits really wel in the light and reflection assignment from the Rietveld Academy.

Dune

These three pictures are made in a very brief photo course of the Rietveld Academy. The assignment was simple: make a portrait. I choose the dunes near my parents home as a baskground. They've always fascinated me, there is something magical about them, something desolate.

Butterfly

These are some stills from my movie in progress: het vlindergevoel, literally translated: the butterfly feeling. As you can see, the drawings of the butterflies are almost childish. This is a part in animation I really enjoy. It is not about the individual frames (as you see here), it is about the movement between the frames. In that movement, the individual butterflies cannot be seen. All you see are flying butterflies.
And yes, I am in love. This (very) short movie is a tribute to that feeling, and of course to my boyfriend who makes that feeling possible.
